    Question Dimension scale problem

Registered forum members do not see this ad.

Sounds simple to solve but I've spent quite a while trying to solve my issue with no luck...

I've taken over a new role whereby I look after 200/300 drawings each with a pre-written dim style. All is fine until I attempt to dim a drawing in paper space. The dims do not appear in the same scale as model space despite dimlfac = 1.

For example, a 900x400 square will dim as 900x400 in model space but if I scale a viewpoint in paper space to 1/10 the dims also appear as 1/10 (90x40).

But if I create a brand new drawing with CAD default templates its fine! I've explored all options regarding dim styles but these seem to make no difference!

    Please help!
    Dan

Nope, makes no difference. Tried both 0 & 1.

Are the dims in paperspace or modelspace? If the Item has been scaled then Dimlfac will need to reflect that if you are doing the dims in paperspace. In your case Dimlfac should be .1.
Be careful what you wish for, it may come true.

The dims are in paperspace and Dimlfac is set to 1 as you suggest.

    Aha think we've solved it!

I've I set DIMASSOC to 2.... it mirrors the model space dims as it should!

Read my post again, not 1, but .1. But, I actually gave it to you wrong, I thought you were scaling up not down. DIMLFAC should be 10 in your case.

No difference in scaling through a viewport or just placing the Item in modelspace and scaling, it still needs the Dimlfac set according to the scale of the object.

For DIMLFAC to be 1, you would need to do your dimensioning in Modelspace and use annotative dimensions for proper sizing in Paperspace.

What idiot told you to dimension in paper space? NEVER DO THIS!!! What happens if you're viewport is not locked and you pan within your VP? Or if you change the scale of your view port? And, don't go changing your system varibles ... set up a new dim style and under fit enter .1 for a 10 scale, .2 for a 20 scale or use the raido button that says scale to view port ... Dims should ALWAYS be in model space ... NO EXCEPTIONS !!!!

Thats a big call mate, we do all our dims in paperspace at my work n i think you'll find alot people do these days. Especially if your working with models its really the only way.
People choose whatever way comfortable with n now that theres associated dimensions scalling for paperspace dimensions is not an issue anymore like you stated
